Azure Cosmos DB Database Administrator | Remote | B2B Contract | 12 Months (ref. #001)
We're looking for an experienced Cosmos DB DBA to manage, optimize, and secure our client's Azure Cosmos DB environment. You'll ensure high availability, performance, and scalability of distributed database systems while collaborating closely with development and cloud teams. This role includes leading a team and supporting a 24/7 production environment with shift-based coverage. Start date: ASAP.
What you'll do:
- Install, configure, and maintain Cosmos DB instances across multi-region, globally distributed environments
- Design and implement partitioning strategies, indexing policies, and consistency models for scalability and performance
- Monitor database performance using Azure Monitor, Metrics, and Alerts—troubleshoot latency and throughput issues proactively
- Optimize queries and resource usage for cost and performance efficiency
- Implement backup and restore strategies, ensuring disaster recovery readiness and data integrity
- Apply role-based access control, encryption, and network security in line with data governance and compliance standards
- Integrate Cosmos DB with Azure services such as Data Factory, Azure Functions, and Synapse Analytics
- Work with developers to optimize queries and stored procedures
- Set up dashboards and alerts for performance and availability monitoring
- Automate routine maintenance tasks using PowerShell, CLI, or Azure automation tools
- Lead and support the team in a 24/7 shift-based environment
What we're looking for:
- 4–6 years of professional experience in database administration, with hands-on Cosmos DB experience
- Solid knowledge of Cosmos DB APIs—particularly SQL API and Mongo API
- Experience with multi-region replication, global distribution, and consistency levels
- Understanding of document-based data models, partitioning strategies, and indexing optimization
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps for CI/CD deployments
- Experience with monitoring, scaling strategies, and reducing operational costs
- Knowledge of compliance frameworks and security best practices
- Very good English — strong communication and collaboration skills with developers and cloud teams
- Problem-solving mindset with solid documentation habits
- Does not require mastery of every technical area listed — what matters is the ability and willingness to upskill and learn
Nice to have:
- Experience in managing manufacturing processes for consumer goods
- Experience with other database technologies beyond Cosmos DB
- Background in leading or mentoring technical teams
- Familiarity with Azure Synapse Analytics or data engineering workflows
What we offer:
- B2B contract
- Remote
- 12-month engagement with an ASAP start
- Flexible shift arrangements within a 24/7 support model
